Below is the official Press Release from Sony as well as specs and more photos. I share above some of the reasons that the Sony a1 appeals to me. My plan is to trade my a9 in with a few other things to UsedPhotoPro. Oh, did I mention there is a whole NEW menu system that is more intuitive and easier to use? Presently for most of our videos, we are working with a Sony a7iii. I am thinking that Michael may be better served with a Sony a7siii.
So if you are interested in the video capability too, see below for the specs. He may have to pry the camera from my hands though. With 8K video specs as well as a ton of other video features I know he will be able to do some amazing work. Michael Durr PXL’s video producer will be begging to use this camera. The video specs are also an interest to me.

This lens will give me further reach as well as a compact lens to travel with, plus it is pretty lightweight. I will also be purchasing the Sony 200-600mm G-Master lens to go with this camera. Superfast AF, no viewfinder blackout, 50 megapixels with 15 stop dynamic range, and 30 frames per second. That’s why I am very excited about the new Sony Alpha 1 camera. Now I am getting the faces of the birds and actually some keepers. I used to be frustrated shooting birds and I ended up with a lot of bird ass pictures because the AF was not hast enough. I’m not much of a bird shooter but this Combo has now allowed me to shoot birds and get focus quick. I also did an article with a video about the a9 and the 100-400mm lens. The fast AF in combination with the 100-400mm G-Master lens has proven its worth time and time again. The a9 has produced some of my best wildlife work. As a photographer using these cameras gives me a sense of confidence in that I can push the envelope and be confident that I‘ll get the shot. I also wrote an article, Sony a7riv Pushed To The Limits. These cameras performed beyond expectations. The a7riv was dedicated to the landscape type of images and the a9 with the Sony G-Master 100-400mm lens for the wildlife. I used both the a7riv and a9 on this trip. See my article Antarctica Workshop Expedition. The last time I used it was in Antarctica in February 2020. The a7riv offer absolutely amazing resolution, and dynamic range. These cameras prior to the pandemic have traveled with me around the world. Presently I own the a7riv and the original a9. It seems deserving of that with what they have introduced. Sony is clever though and thus changed the camera naming game around and labeled it the a1. And essentially, it could have easily been that. There was a lot of speculation on the rumor sites about what this new camera was going to be. I haven’t purchased any major new cameras for over a year and as a matter of fact, I have downsized my gear as I write about it in an article Too Much Photo Gear – GAS. However, I have a lot of Sony gear and this camera hit the mark for me and I put my order in for it before the presentation was over. It’s also a wallet breaker coming in at $6500 USD.ĭoes it live up to the hype and specs? Well, that remains to be seen. I dislike using the word game changer, but that is what this camera is. Just when you thought it was OK to go back and take photos again Sony goes and releases a new super camera, the Sony Alpha 1.
